Star Wars and Good vs. Evil

A reflection with Adam Geiger

Star Wars and Good vs. Evil

0:00 --:--

Let’s talk a little about Star Wars. An epic collection of storylines that paint the picture of the good guys up against the bad guys.

Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

The Jedi and the Sith.

Obi-Wan and Darth Maul.

.

These themes of good versus evil are central to storylines.

They pull us in.

And throughout much of the nine Star Wars films, and of course the countless spinoffs (I stumbled upon my nephew watching Lego Star Wars recently) it often feels like evil is on the verge of ultimate victory.

.

Our lives can feel this way too.

Sometimes it seems as though everything is about to fall apart, and that all hope is lost. This is really the great trick of any powerful story, or of any interesting life — that all of our worst fears are just about to come true.

And so often, when things feel their worst, we want to escape, to run to some external validator to help us feel better immediately.

But does a movie escape from itself when everything seems lost? Or does the film reel keep churning, letting the story play out?

.

Remember, no matter how difficult things may feel, these are just scenes in the movie of you.

Good will win in the end.

You’re going to be okay.
