Overview

Are you a builder at heart – curious, resourceful, and eager to see your code come to life in the hands of real users?

AlchemistOne is looking for a Junior Developer & QA Lead to support our growing Android and iOS apps while helping shape the quality assurance processes across both platforms. You’ll work closely with our dev team to fix bugs, ship small features, and take ownership of testing workflows that ensure every user experience is stable, smooth, and intentional.

This is a hybrid role that blends development and QA – ideal for someone looking to grow their technical skills while making a real impact on a product that’s helping people transform their lives.

Who We Are

Our founding team and content creators have all been impacted by addiction and believe in reshaping the world through honesty, open-mindedness, and a willingness to grow. AlchemistOne is more than just a mental health app. It’s a space for self-discovery, healing, and reconnection.

We’re early-stage, remote-first, and obsessed with building things that matter. We move fast, stay scrappy, and support each other with radical transparency and shared purpose.

Who You Are

You’ve got a bit of Android and/or iOS experience under your belt and a hunger to do more. You’re curious, quick to learn, and not afraid to dive into a messy bug or write a clean test plan. You know that quality is about more than just squashing crashes – it’s about helping users trust what they’re using.

You’re organized, self-directed, and excited to help us build (and maintain) QA systems that can scale. You like working in collaborative environments where your ideas are heard, where there’s room to grow beyond your title.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the Android/iOS codebases with bug fixes and small features
  • Test and validate new features across both Android and iOS
  • Write up clear, human-readable test plans for upcoming releases
  • Coordinate feedback from QA testers and beta users
  • Help define and implement a repeatable QA process
  • Track issues, prioritize bugs, and work with developers to resolve them
  • (Bonus) Explore automated testing tools and frameworks over time

About the Role

This is a remote role, with the freedom to set your own schedule — so long as the work gets done. We care more about what you do than when you do it. That said, we move quickly, and there will be moments when the pace picks up or collaboration needs to happen in real-time.

A motivated self-starter will thrive here. We’re a small team, so your voice will carry weight. You’ll have real autonomy, with regular Zoom check-ins and collaboration tools to stay aligned.

Qualifications

We don’t expect you to be an expert in everything, but familiarity with the following tools will help:

Technical Experience

  • Some experience with Android (Kotlin or Java)
  • Familiarity with Android Studio and Git
  • Comfort testing apps on both Android and iOS
  • Understanding of QA basics: test cases, bug reporting, etc.

Soft Skills

  • Clear communication (written and verbal)
  • Organized, self-directed, and accountable
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and iterating quickly
  • Curious and willing to learn new tools or processes

(Bonus points for)

  • Exposure to iOS or cross-platform development
  • Experience with bug tracking tools like Jira or Linear
  • Interest in automated testing frameworks or CI tools

Eligibility Requirements

This position is funded in part by a youth employment program*. Applicants must meet all three of the following criteria:

  • Be 30 years old or younger
  • Have graduated from a post-secondary (college or university) program in Software Development, Computer Science, or a related field within the past 24 months.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status

We recognize this narrows the field — but it also helps us offer meaningful early-career experience in a high-impact environment.

What We Offer

  • A real opportunity to shape and ship code that helps people
  • A chance to lead QA practices across an entire product ecosystem
  • Startup speed with no red tape and lots of autonomy
  • Flexible remote work — from anywhere in Canada
  • The potential to extend beyond the contract and earn equity in what we’re building
